Sarah Eagle Heart is a two-time Emmy Award-winning storyteller and visionary producer whose work blends cultural revitalization, social justice, and emotionally resonant storytelling. Her projects—ranging from the Emmy-winning documentary Lakota Nation vs. United States, to the animated VR experience Crow: The Legend, to her most recent short film Butterflies, produced in collaboration with Matter and Space—bridge grassroots activism with visionary media. Butterfliesimagines a future where AI and Indigenous knowledge work together to support lifelong learning and collective flourishing. Lakota Nation vs. United States (2024 Emmy Winner for Best Documentary)
This critically acclaimed documentary explores the centuries-long struggle of the Lakota people to reclaim He Sapa—the sacred Black Hills of South Dakota. As Executive Producer, Sarah helped guide this landmark project, which combines historical narrative, modern activism, and stunning cinematography to confront the ongoing legacy of colonization. The film premiered at Tribeca Film Festival and received national distribution in theaters, ultimately earning an Emmy for Best Documentary and a Television Academy Honors Award for its social impact.
Sarah’s acceptance speech highlighted the spiritual and political significance of the land and the power of truth-telling.

Crow: The Legend (2019 Emmy Winner for Outstanding Interactive Media)
In partnership with Baobab Studios and John Legend’s Get Lifted Film Co., Sarah served as Executive Producer for this groundbreaking virtual reality experience that reimagines an Indigenous creation story. Featuring an all-star cast including John Legend and Oprah Winfrey, Crow: The Legend uses animation and immersive technology to bring the traditional tale of transformation and sacrifice to life. The project won the 2019 Emmy for Outstanding Interactive Media, and remains a benchmark in culturally grounded, tech-forward storytelling.
Butterflies (2024)
Butterflies is a poetic short film envisioning a future where education, wellbeing, and Indigenous knowledge converge in harmony with the natural world. Executive produced by Emmy Award-winner Sarah Eagle Heart and created in collaboration with the Očhéthi Šakówiŋ communities of South Dakota, the film explores how technology—particularly AI—can serve as a co-pilot for healing, justice, and lifelong learning. Set against the backdrop of ancestral lands and histories, Butterflies honors the legacy of Indigenous resilience and imagines a future rooted in reverence, empowerment, and collective flourishing.
